Canelo Alvarez Thrilled By Ryan Garcia’s Win Against Devin Haney

Canelo Alvarez is delighted by Ryan Garcia’s victory over Devin Haney.

Canelo and Garcia were previously not on the best of terms. They trained under Eddy Reynoso before Garcia left in 2021. Alvarez questioned Garcia’s work ethic, stating he needed to put more time into the gym. There was a perception that Garcia was spending too much time on social media rather than sharpening his skills in the gym.

“Look, Ryan has a lot of talent. But to me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent. I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal. We always remind him as a team to come to the gym, to train, and to learn because you need to be in the gym. You’re learning day-by-day, at the very minimum fighting five times a year,” Alvarez said

However, before the Haney fight, Canelo and Garcia patched things up. The two fighters shared a warm exchange of words on social media. Garcia then produced the performance of his career, dropping Haney three times to become the ‘face of boxing.’ Canelo reacted to the news, saying he was delighted to see Garcia fulfilling his potential.

“Nothing surprise me. I think Ryan has a lot of talent, and I’m happy for him. I see that fight and I was so happy. Nervous a little bit, but I was so happy for him,” Canelo said
