Canelo Alvarez Will Reportedly Vacate His IBF Title

Canelo Alvarez will reportedly vacate his IBF Super Middleweight Belt, which will no longer make him undisputed at 168.

The news comes after the IBF ordered Alvarez to his mandatory William Scull, with purse bids set for June 6. Canelo already received backlash for choosing to face Jaime Munguia rather than David Benavidez in his last fight. After beating Munguia, Canelo is expected to face a big name.

A fight with Scull is unlikely to appease boxing fans. Now, according to Boxing Scene, Canelo will vacate his IBF Belt. Canelo has been undisputed since he stopped Caleb Plant in 2021. He has defended that title four times. If Canelo pulls out of the purse bids, Scull will face Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant belt. The news will be a blow to boxing fans who were hoping to see Canelo box Benavidez or Terence Crawford for undisputed.
