Canelo Alvarez’s Opponent For September 17 To Be Announced Next Week
Since getting dismantled by Dmitry Bivol, there are question marks flying around as to whether Canelo Alvarez (57-2, 39 KOs) is running out of gas.
His defeat against Bivol was only the second time he had tasted defeat.
Now, Eddie Hearn believes that Canelo’s opponent for September 17 will be revealed next week.
The two names that are under consideration are Gennadiy Golovkin and Bivol himself.
Both of these fighters have a long history with Alvarez. Hearn isn’t convinced about the fighter Alvarez would pick. However, he prefers it to be Golovkin.
If the 31-year-old picks Golovkin, it means that Bivol would be free to defend his WBA light heavyweight title against the winner between Joshua Buatsi and Craig Richards. Gilberto Ramirez is another option that is under Bivol’s radar.
Or, he might get his desired fight against the winner of Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr, which takes place on June 18.
Many people believe that the Mexican would use his rematch clause to get one over Bivol, after suffering defeat by unanimous decision on May 7.
But we may see another chapter in the storied rivalry between the two fighters.
