Canelo And Munguia In Talks For Cinco De Mayo Bout On May 4

Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia are reportedly in talks to fight on May 4 for Cinco De Mayo Weekend.

Alvarez has not fought since his win over Jermell Charlo last year to retain his Undisputed Super Middleweight Title. There is growing pressure on Canelo to face David Benavidez, who has been the WBC interim champion at super middleweight for over a year. But Munguia is coming off an impressive victory over John Ryder. He stopped the Brit in the ninth round after dropping him four times. Ryder then announced his retirement after the fight. If the fight is made, it will likely be a PPV on Amazon Prime Video, but DAZN could also air it since Munguia fights with Golden Boy Promotions.

“Jaime Munguía returned to the negotiating table for a possible fight against Canelo Álvarez in May,” said ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez

Now, according to TV Azteca, Canelo will make a big announcement over his future soon.

Boxing fans may have to wait longer to see Canelo vs. Benavidez. While that bout is still possible for Mexican Independence Day, the social media reaction suggested people were not too keen on a Munguia fight.
