Canelo Attributes His Recent Poor Performances To A Hand Injury

Canelo Alvarez pointed to his hand injury as the reason for his poor performances of late.

Following his loss to Dmitry Bivol, Alvarez decided to undergo surgery on his wrist. Therefore, there was a perception that his performance against Bivol had been hampered somewhat.

Following his return from surgery, Canelo faced Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder. However, the failure to stop either of them was noticed, with suggestions that Canelo was not the same fighter.

But rather than get worried about the background noise coming his way, Canelo admitted that he was focused on his fight against Jermell Charlo.

“I’m not happy. I’m happy with all the things I have in my hand. I’m happy, but I’m not 100%. Because of my hand because I’m not able to train 100%,hitting the pads with Eddy [Reynoso], working with Eddy and hitting hard the heavy bags and everything,” Alvarez

Ultimately, Canelo will be judged against tougher opposition when it comes to his weight class. Until fights with David Benavidez or a Bivol rematch transpire, Alvarez will have to deal with the scrutiny. But for now a win will keep the critics at bay.
