Canelo & Demetrius Andrade Trade Barbs Following Billy Joe Saunders Fight
Things have gotten testy between Canelo Alvarez and Demetrius Andrade.
Canelo was in action this past Saturday night, May 8. He shared the ring with Billy Joe Saunders in a highly-anticipated super-middleweight title fight. Canelo’s WBA, WBC, and The Ring Titles were at stake, while Saunders put the WBO gold on the line. Canelo added another piece of hardware to his mantle by scoring an eighth-round TKO finish over Saunders due to an eye injury.
Before the fight took place, Canelo told reporters that he had no interest in fighting Andrade because he felt his resume is lacking despite being the WBO Middleweight Champion. This didn’t sit well with Andrade, who crashed the post-fight press conference.
Here is what was said between Canelo and Andrade (h/t Bad Left Hook).

“So when can we get something going on?” Andrade asked Canelo.
“Oh man,” Canelo said.
“Congratulations today, though. Good job. I’m a big fan.” Andrade continued.
“I know, I know that,” Canelo responded.
Andrade then asked when he and Canelo would mix it up inside the ring.
“Man, you fight with nobody. Hey, you are a champion and you fight with nobody, man. You won that belt with nobody. Get the [expletive] outta here, man. Please, get the [expletive] outta here. This my night,” Canelo responded.
“Yo don’t talk to me like that, bruh,” Andrade said.
“Aye, get the [expletive] outta here because I’m gonna [expletive] you up right now [expletive]. Hey, you are a horrible fighter. You never gonna get that fight, man. You are a horrible fighter, horrible fighter…you will pay later, I know that,” Canelo said.
Beef has been brewing between Canelo and Andrade for a while. Andrade served as a desk analyst for Canelo’s December 2020 showdown with Callum Smith. After the fight, Andrade argued that Canelo can’t be considered the pound-for-pound best until they fight.
