Canelo Eyes KO Against Jacobs
Canelo Alvarez feels that the game of mental warfare against Daniel Jacobs is already his, as the unified middleweight champion told reporters on Wednesday.
“If he’s already thinking about the judges and losing, he’s already making an excuse of defeat,” stated Alvarez, as the two prepare to face off in a middleweight unification fight on May 4th in Las Vegas. “If that’s his mindset that favors me.”
Even with that in Jacobs’ mind, Alvarez is not looking to leave it to the judges. “I always want to win by knockout,” stated Canelo. This won’t be an exception. We will go for the knockout with intelligence.”
Coming off of his win against Gennady Golovkin last September, Alvarez went up to super middleweight, knocking out Rocky Fielding and gaining the WBA (regular) super middleweight title. While he was criticized for fighting the relatively unknown Fielding, Alvarez feels Jacobs or anyone could have stood across from him.
“In my last fight, There’s always sacrifices when you training to make weight but that’s part of my job to make weight. I didn’t need an easy fight. It was an opportunity to win a title at 168. It could have been Jacobs in December. There’s always going to be critics and that’s normal. It’s part of the stage I am at. It’s part of the territory. You just have to deal with it.”
