Canelo Fears Commissions Could Get Jake & Logan Paul Hurt
Canelo Alvarez has a bad feeling that things could go south if athletic commissions continue allowing Jake and Logan Paul to box.
The Paul brothers are popular YouTube personalities. The two have been dabbling in the world of boxing. Jake is 3-0 as a pro boxer with victories over fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib, former NBA star Nate Robinson, and former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren. Paul is set for an exhibition match with Hall of Fame elect Floyd Mayweather.
During an interview with Graham Bensinger, Canelo said that it’s dangerous for commissions to clear the Paul brothers to compete in boxing (via Bad Left Hook).
“They could get them killed. This is not a soccer game, they could get them killed. I truly believe that it’s a lack of respect,’ he said. “It’s all based on money. It’s all for money. I’m focused right now on other projects. I have other stuff going on, and I would invite him (a Paul brother) for a sparring session so that he truly knows what it’s all about.”
Canelo has made it clear that he doesn’t feel YouTube stars have been respecting the sport of boxing. There was even an incident where Canelo threw two fans where shirts promoting Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren out of the ring following his victory over Callum Smith. Jake responded by labeling Canelo as a hater and accusing him of ducking fighters.
