Canelo Alvarez believes Gervonta Davis should have had a 10-8 round against him or even been disqualified when he faced Lamont Roach Jr.
Davis took a knee in the ninth round as he went to his corner to wipe grease from his face. The referee did not initiate the count, meaning Roach was prevented from securing a 10-8 round. If Roach had been awarded a 10-8 round, Davis would have suffered his first loss. Instead, the fight was scored as a majority draw as Tank retained his WBA Lightweight Belt. Roach’s team appealed the decision, as the New York State Athletic Commission investigated. The Commission upheld the original ruling, as the two fighters are on course to have a rematch. Canelo made his feelings clear.
“He took a knee. You need to lose like 10-8 – at least. Plus, the corner went up and put a towel on his face. That’s a disqualification for sure. I’m talking about under the rules,” Canelo said
