Canelo-GGG Agree On September 15 Rematch

Nearly two hours after the deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions, both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have come to terms for a rematch on September 15th in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya, who claimed Wednesday afternoon that Golovkin balked at their last offer and the fight was off, would announce the rematch on his Twitter account.

While De La Hoya claimed the fight was off in a conversation with ESPN, a “Hail Mary” offer was floated by Golden Boy President Eric Gomez and negotiated with Golovkin’s team.

“Still working on it,” Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler relayed following the deadline, as Golovkin was in Moscow for the opening ceremonies of the 2018 World Cup.

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but may be a bit closer to a 55-45 split between Alvarez and Golovkin, and not the recent offer of 57.5% for Canelo and 42.5% for Golovkin.
