Canelo-Kovalev Bigger Than Canelo-GGG 3?

“You will absolutely see Canelo and GGG fight next year,” promoter Oscar De La Hoya said this week of what many believe is a rubber match between the two in either May or September.

Golovkin was denied the opportunity to face Alvarez for a third time earlier this month due to Alvarez wanting to move on from the former champion, especially if Golovkin lacks a world title.

Golovkin is looking to regain a world title on October 5th, as he will make his return to DAZN and Madison Square Garden against Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title, which was stripped from Alvarez after being unable to come to a deal with Derevyanchenko.

With Alvarez unable to make a deal for a fight with the middleweight challenger for a fight in October or November, Alvarez has decided to make a move up two weight classes to fight WBO champion Sergey Kovalev

“Canelo’s fight against Kovalev is huge. I think it’s bigger than a fight against GGG,” De La Hoya continued to the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s a mega-fight. Kovalev has a real shot to knock him out and beat him and people know that.”
