Canelo: Mayweather Loss Prepped Me For Jacobs’ Style Clash

With the grand arrivals today, Canelo Alvarez has returned to Las Vegas for another fight night.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times prior to arriving in Vegas, Alvarez feels prepared for the awkward matchup that Daniel Jacobs bring with his size and power advantage.

“I always wanted to face the best fighters … to cement my path and be able to place myself in the history of boxing,” Alvarez said in a statement to The Times on Monday. “ … The reason I fought against the kind of style that Mayweather [has] is because I was already used to [other] kinds of fighters.

Mayweather is the only blemish on Alvarez’ record (two draws withstanding), and has evolved as a fighter since then.

“I also knew that fighting against the best would prepare [me] for challenges like the one I have against Daniel Jacobs.”

Jacobs and Alvarez headline a card from the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, May 4th on DAZN.
