Canelo Open For “Unlikely” Mayweather Rematch

With the only man ever to defeat him announcing his return to the ring, Canelo Alvarez is down to run it back with Floyd Mayweather.

“I have always imagined it [the rematch against Mayweather],” Alvarez told ESPN Deportes. “But I view it as an apprenticeship more so than a defeat.”

Mayweather pulled a complete 180 on Friday after claiming earlier in the week that he was never going to return to the “brutal” sport of boxing.

Now, Mayweather seems to be planning something with UFC President and Zuffa Boxing founder Dana White for sometime in 2020, and with Alvarez and White/Mayweather’s bitter enemy Oscar De La Hoya at odds, things may fall into place for a possible fight, alliance, prodding by White into the issues between De La Hoya and the cornerstone of his promotion.

“I would love to [fight him again],” Alvarez summated of a rematch with Mayweather. “But I don’t think he’s going to turn [in this direction].”
