Canelo-Saunders & Taylor-Ramirez Going Head-To-Head?

Fight fans may have a tough choice to make on May 8.

There are two big title unification bouts on the horizon this spring. If Canelo Alvarez can get past Avni Yildirim, then he’d be set for a super-middleweight title unification bout against Billy Joe Saunders. Also set for this spring is an undisputed light-welterweight title bout between champions Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez.

While this seems like great news for fight fans, both bouts are reportedly scheduled to take place on the same night.

Mike Coppinger of The Athletic is reporting that Canelo vs. Saunders is set to take place on May 8. ESPN’s Mark Kriegel also reported that Taylor vs. Ramirez is on tap to take place that same night.

“Sources: Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders is slated for May 8 on DAZN. Cinco De Mayo is on a Wednesday so May 1 was a possibility. The Josh Taylor-Jose Ramírez undisputed title tilt is May 8 on ESPN. Absolute disaster for boxing to have two fights of that magnitude head-to-head.”

Canelo is set to face Avni Yildirim on February 27. The Mexican star will be putting the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Middleweight Titles on the line. Canelo is heavily favored to win that bout and go on to meet Saunders.

Canelo vs. Saunders would air live on DAZN. Taylor vs. Ramirez is scheduled to air live on the major ESPN network. FIGHT SPORTS will keep you up to speed on whether or not there will be any date changes for these two massive title bouts.
