Canelo Tops Forbes’ Boxing Moneymakers List
While pound-for-pound lists will inspire debate and controversy no matter which boxer is ranked where, but money is an undeniable measure of success. Forbes Magazine has released their list of the top 10 moneymakers in boxing, and Mexican star Canelo Alvarez comes in at the top.
Here’s the full list of the top moneymakers in boxing, according to Forbes:
1) Canelo Alvarez
2) Andre Ward
3) Gennady Golovkin
4) Sergey Kovalev
5) Manny Pacquiao
6) Wladimir Klitschko/Anthony Joshua (tie)
7) Keith Thurman
8) Deontay Wilder
9) Terence Crawford
10) Vasyl Lomachenko
Canelo held the number one spot last year as well. Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev stayed in the top five after their November showdown, which Ward won by controversial split decision.
In a tie for sixth place, Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will be tied only until April, when the two will fight in one of the biggest heavyweight title fights in recent memory.
Making his debut on the list of top-1o moneymakers is Vasyl Lomachenko, the Ukranian phenom who earned $1 million for only his eighth professional fight in November.
