Canelo Vs. Jermell Charlo Set For September 30th

Canelo Alvarez has shockingly revealed that he will face Jermell Charlo, as opposed to his brother Jermall Charlo that was expected, on September 30th, 2023, from Las Vegas.

The bout is an opportunity to create history since it is the first time that two undisputed champions have faced each other in the four-belt era.

Canelo holds all the belts at super middleweight, while Charlo has the same at junior middlweight.

But rather than there being a catchweight, Charlo will move up to 168 lb in order to make the fight happen. The news did come out of the blue since Canelo had been in line to face Jermall.

So much so that the Mexican had been in contact with the PBC to make it happen. However, reports indicated that Jermall would not be available in September which is why his brother has stepped in.

This is understandable since Jermall has been out of the ring for two years since his win over Juan Macias Montiel.

Regardless, Canelo is the heavy favorite as Jermell has never fought above 154 lbs. The news also has implications for Tim Tszyu.

The latter has been waiting to fight Jermell for the undisputed, as their fight had been rescheduled after Charlo injured his hand. And this news has not gone down well with him.
