Canelo Vs. Munguia: Both Fighters Make Weight

Canelo Alvarez and Jamie Munguia have both made weight ahead of their Undisputed Super Middleweight Clash on Saturday.

Alvarez puts his Undisputed Super Middleweight Title on the line against the undefeated Munguia. Canelo’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Jermell Charlo, who jumped up two weight classes from 154. He faces Munguia, a fully-fledged super middleweight coming off his best win. He stopped John Ryder in his last fight, dropping him four times to secure a ninth-round stoppage. Alvarez hit the scales at 166.8 pounds, while Munguia weighed 167.4 pounds.

The build-up has been dominated by the tension between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo. The Golden Boy promoter reminded Alvarez of how Golden Boy helped build his career, telling him to put some respect on his ‘name.’ Alvarez responded by accusing De La Hoya of attempting to steal his money.

Oscar has now issued a ‘cease-and-desist’ letter, claiming defamation. The situation could have escalated as both men were separated by security to prevent an altercation. With Canelo desperate to stop Munguia, he has the added incentive of getting one over De La Hoya. But will that backfire and play into Munguia’s hands?
