Canelo vs. Scull Agreed

William Scull’s promoter has said a deal has been agreed for his fighter to box Canelo Alvarez.

The IBF ordered Canelo to face his super middleweight mandatory, with the purse bids initially set for June 6. The purse bids were postponed until June 13, leaving Canelo to decide. There is increasing pressure on Canelo to fight David Benavidez. He has demanded $200 million for the fight, as he fought Jaime Munguia instead. However, facing Scull keeps his undisputed hopes alive.

That makes a Canelo-Benavidez fight more likely since Canelo can command a bigger purse for an undisputed fight. However, a Scull fight will only satisfy fans if Alvarez faces Benavidez next. Scull is 22-0. His last bout was a victory over Sean Hemphill. But this is his toughest test, as his promoter, Ingo Volckmann, confirmed a deal had been agreed. It remains to be seen if the fight is next, or if it is a step-aside deal.

“We are happy that we were able to get this over the line. Purse bids have since been cancelled, and a date will be revealed and officially announced in due course,” Ingo Volckmann said
