Canelo’s Cinco De Mayo Plans

Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) will be ringside on May 2 to support his training partner and gymmate Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs) in a card headlined by his long-time rival David Benavidez. 

Munguia is set to challenge Jose Armando Resendiz for the WBA Super Middleweight Title. The bout serves as the co-main event to the cruiserweight unification between David Benavidez and Gilberto Ramirez. Since joining the “Canelo Team” gym, Munguia has been seen frequently training alongside Alvarez. Canelo’s appearance is also critical, as he had boxed for four consecutive years on Cinco De Mayo, the latest being the William Scull fight last year to become the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time. With Canelo in attendance, we’ll see if Benavidez calls him out if he is victorious.
