Canelo’s Retirement Timeline

Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) has put a number on the end of his career, saying he expects no more than three or four fights before retirement — with the next of them confirmed against WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) on October 31.

The fight was moved from September to the October date due to Canelo’s personal matters that required his attention before he could commit fully to preparation. Canelo was candid about what still motivates him at 36.

“I don’t do it because I get big paydays; it’s because I really still enjoy boxing. But there’s nothing out there for me to prove. I’ve accomplished pretty much everything in boxing. There’s maybe three or four more fights left for me,” Canelo

The enjoyment factor carries weight given what Canelo has already accumulated. He has held world titles across four weight classes, unified all four major belts at super middleweight to become undisputed, and defeated some of the biggest names in his era.
