Carla Esparza Ready To Postpone Wedding For Title Fight Vs. Rose Namajunas
Carla Esparza said she’s willing to do anything to get a rematch against Rose Namajunas.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that Esparza is next in line to face strawweight champion Namajunas. Esparza said she’s prepared to postpone her wedding in order to secure the title shot.
While a date and location have yet to be determined, the former UFC champion would like the battle to occur before summer.
“In all reality, it would be ideal to have this fight before May,” Esparza told MMA Fighting.
“That is my ideal timeline… If it doesn’t, I’m completely willing to change the date of my wedding, and everyone who’s on my wedding list is my friend and they would 100 percent understand,” she continued.
“My fiancé, we’re getting married no matter what. We’re going to be together forever, so the date being a couple months later doesn’t change things. This title fight is the priority right now.”
Her fiancé is Matthew Lomeli, a doctor.
Namajunas contested barely a month ago, defeating Zhang Weili for the second time to defend her 115-pound title at UFC 268.
Esparza hasn’t fought since May, when she defeated Yan Xiaonan via technical knockout for her fifth straight victory.
