Carmouche To Make Bellator Debut in May
Bellator’s latest acquisition will be making her debut promotion in a main event spot. Liz Carmouche will headline Bellator 243 on May 29 against prospect Mandy Bohm. The fight will take place inside the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California.
The 36-year-old Carmouche (13-7) is coming off of a unanimous decision loss against Valentina Shevchenko back in August. The UFC then released the Marine Crops veteran, which was shocking considering she was on a two-fight win streak beforehand. A pioneer for women’s MMA, Carmouche fought for Strikeforce and Invicta before making her UFC debut at UFC 157 in 2013. The bout in 2013 against Ronda Rousey for the UFC Bantamweight Championship was the first UFC event to feature women on it. She ended up 5-5 in the UFC.
Now, Carmouche looks to build up the featherweight division of Bellator.
Her opponent will also be making her Bellator debut. Mandy Bohm (6-0, 1NC) beat Jade Masson-Wong back in May via submission. Following a no-contest in her first bout in 2014, Bohm won her last six fights. She has been training with SBG Ireland and John Kavanagh, who is known to associate himself with Conor McGregor.
Bellator 243 will be shown on Paramount Network and DAZN. Tickets go on sale on March 13, the day of Bellator 241.
