Cassius Clay Stops Sonny Banks – February 10, 1962 (This Day In Boxing History)
This is the day Cassius Clay went down for the first time in his career.
But Clay, who would change his name to Muhammad Ali two years later, went on to floor Sonny Banks in the second round.
Clay then claimed control of the fight and battered Banks, forcing the referee to stop the fight 26 seconds into Round 4.
Clay, or Ali, is considered one of the greatest heavyweights and one of the greatest boxers overall of all time. His bout against Banks was a non-title fight at Madison Square Garden.
