Chael Sonnen Doesn’t Think Anderson Silva Returns To MMA Competition
Chael Sonnen isn’t convinced that Anderson Silva will be back in action.
Silva is regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. At one point, he was considered the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport. Fast forward to late 2020 and “The Spider” has gone 1-7, 1 NC in his last nine outings and is 45 years old. He’s also a free agent after being released by the UFC.
Speaking to James Lynch of Fanatics View, Sonnen expressed his belief that Silva will eventually decide to hang up his gloves rather than sign with a new promotion (h/t BJPenn.com).
Chael Sonnen doesn't think Anderson Silva will fight again with promotions refusing to sign him

“No, I don’t think we’ll see him fight again because I think those promotions are telling the truth. And I think there’s a much better way of going about it than the way that he went about it. I don’t think you should come out and just offer your services somewhere. I think that you should have a finished product. He should have found a very specific opponent, taken it to the audience first, to make sure the audience wanted it, then added some flames to it, and then dropped it.”
Silva went from having a record of 33-4 to going 34-11, 1 NC. Most agree that Silva has nothing left to do in the sport of MMA. Still, the former UFC Middleweight Champion is adamant about sticking around and he has said he wishes the UFC would’ve let him fight out of his contract as he had one bout left on the old deal.
Speaking to FIGHT SPORTS, PFL President Ray Sefo praised Silva but said he’d rather see “The Spider” retire. Barring a change of heart, it seems that PFL can be ruled out as a landing spot for Silva.
