Chandler: McGregor Fight Is Happening, Addresses WWE Callout

Michael Chandler explained his Conor McGregor callout at WWE Monday Night RAW in Anaheim, as he remains confident of fighting the Irishman.

Chandler has been desperate to get McGregor in the Octagon since their rivalry began on the TUF 31 series. ‘Iron’ thought he secured the bout after McGregor made an announcement on New Year’s Day for a fight on June 29 at 185 pounds. Dana White dismissed the date, leaving McGregor and MMA fans uncertain of his next move. Chandler put the pressure on McGregor, calling him out at the WWE event.

“What’s up, Anaheim? You are now in the presence of the most entertaining UFC fighter on the planet. Hey, now there’s a man from Ireland who’s been making me wait way too long and I still have got one dude on my mind. Conor McGregor, get your candy ass back to the octagon. We’ve got some unfinished business, boys. God bless. I’ll see you at the top,” Chandler said

The UFC fighter admitted it was impromptu, but Chandler’s appearance went viral. He also teased a possible crossover with the WWE as he posed alongside Triple H.

The UFC’s merger with TKO Group Holdings Inc. has increased the chances of that happening.

“There was nothing prepared. Nothing. I was thrown into the fire. Smacked myself a couple of times and then we went. There’s no video footage of me taking my shirt off, but Pat McAfee said I took my shirt off [after], so got the crowd into it, I was flexing on everybody.

“It was fun, man. It was really cool. There’s a lot of synergy there and the sky’s the limit when it comes to TKO Group and what we can do in the crossover, and yeah, man, it’s probably just the very beginning,” Chandler revealed

But Chandler’s primary focus is the McGregor fight. Chandler has not fought since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022. That was Chandler’s third loss in four UFC fights, as inactivity will only harm his career. At 37, Chandler may not have too many fights left at the top level. But he still expects to face The Notorious.

“This is the fight that is happening. I can’t tell you a date, I can’t tell you a weight, but I can tell you the fight is happening. And I have way too many assurances that this fight is happening to think otherwise,” Chandler added
