Chandler Still Eyeing The McGregor Fight

Michael Chandler still expects to fight Conor McGregor.

Their clash was meant for June 29 on UFC 303. McGregor pulled out after suffering a broken toe. The Notorious hopes to return by September, although Dana White has ruled out McGregor fighting this year. The decision has left Chandler plenty to ponder over. He could fight another opponent, having been linked with Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway.

Oliveira is a former UFC Lightweight Champion and a big name. Meanwhile, Holloway is the BMF Champion. Blessed stopped Justin Gaethje with a second left in the fight to win the title at UFC 300. A victory against Holloway gives Chandler more leverage in the McGregor fight. But a loss could derail any hopes of facing McGregor. Chandler must keep himself active since he has not had a UFC fight since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in 2022. However, he is still focused on getting McGregor.

“I’m not really that worried about it. Conor can’t— at this point, and I’ve said this publicly, I’m not letting him off the hook. For a while there, yeah, of course he would love to fight somebody other than Michael Chandler, with what I bring to the octagon. I think there’s no way he comes back to the UFC and doesn’t fight me. So if I do pivot, if there are other names being thrown out, if there are huge fights that I can go ahead and pivot and take, whenever he is ready to come back, his road back to the UFC goes straight through Nashville, Tennessee, and Michael Chandler — and that’s it,” Chandler said
