Chantelle Cameron Beats Mikaela Mayer in World Title Unification Fight

Chantelle Cameron (23-1, 8 KOs) beat Mikaela Mayer (22-3, 5 KOs) by unanimous decision to unify the WBA, WBC and WBO super welterweight world titles at the bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, England, on Saturday, August 29.

The Englishwoman landed the more significant shots in the fight, including a nasty left hand in the fifth. She consistently had faster, more powerful hands. And even when her American rival started to fight her way into the bout by the fifth, Cameron denied her too many rounds by halting the momentum by boxing smart — with head movement and superior shot selection.

The judges were in unanimous agreement with two scores of 97-93 and one closer card of 96-94.

Cameron said she was “buzzing” to have scored the win over Mayer and called for a rematch using three-minute rounds rather than the two that are customary in women’s boxing.

Mayer, meanwhile, slammed the result.

“I outboxed Cameron. I’ll give myself an honest evaluation but my initial thoughts are I outboxed her. She didn’t do anything I didn’t expect.”

Earlier on the card, Caroline Dubois retained her unified WBC and WBO lightweight titles by dominating Amelia Moore over 10 rounds. Reina Tellez secured a bruising win on points (96-94) after 10 rounds at featherweight. And Terri Harper finished Miranda Reyes in the second round.
