Charles Oliveira Geared Up To Show Who Is “The Real Champ” At UFC 269
Charles Oliveira is ready to put on a show for his fans and prove that he is the only “real champ” in the lightweight division.
Oliveira will be defending his crown for the first time against Dustin Poirier this Saturday at UFC 269 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.
But Oliveira is ready as ever to prove all these prophesies wrong and show that he is really a fighter worthy of the Champion status. During a recent interview with TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, the 32-year-old vowed to show the fans that he belongs to the top of the 155 lb division.
“People love Dustin. Like you said, he’s seen as the uncrowned champion. But I’ll show on Saturday who the real champion is; that the belt has an owner, and his name is Charles Oliveira.
Oliveira hasn’t had an easy ride to the top and had to fight 28 times in the octagon before finally getting the gold wrapped around his waist.
Oliveira feels like many of his fellow fighters do not give him the due credit he deserves and is confident that he will make them regret come December 11 when he makes his first title defense.
The Sao Paulo native got his hands on the title for the first time at UFC 262 in May.
After Khabib Nurmagomedov relinquished the lightweight title, Oliveira was provided the opportunity to contest for the title against three-time Bellator titleholder Michael Chandler. After surviving the early fury from Chandler, Oliveira finished Chandler in the second round and got his name carved on the lightweight belt.
Oliveira needs to be at his very best if he is to make it past Poirier.
Poirier will be the favorite going into this fight as he enters on the back of two victories over former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor.
Not many in the MMA circle are giving much chance to the reigning champion to come out victorious on the night.
“I’m happy with this fight, I’m ready, and I’ll show that on Saturday,” Oliveira stated.
