Charles Oliveira Targets Date And Location For Reclaiming Lightweight Title

Charles Oliveira may have lost his lightweight title, but he’s already secured the chance to win it back.

Oliveira was forced to vacate his UFC title after weighing a half-pound over the 155-pound limit following two attempts at Friday’s official weigh-in for UFC 274. But he gained redemption after he defeated former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje by first-round submission.

For his next fight – which would likely be for the title – he already knows where and when he wants it to be.

“We basically gonna do what we’ve done in recent past,” Oliveira said during his UFC 274 post-fight press conference.

“We wanna fight in December, wanna rest a little bit, continue with that same timing. I think that’s the best. And by the way, it’s going to be in Brazil.”

The UFC hasn’t been in Brazil since Oliveira fought Kevin Lee there in March 2020. It was the first event that the UFC held without any fans, due to the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Brazilian won the vacant title over Michael Chandler at UFC 262. He then made his first successful defense at UFC 269 against Dustin Poirier and now, last Saturday, he won over Gaethje.
