Jermall Charlo (35-0, 22 KOs) has identified WBA super middleweight champion Jaime Munguia as his target for 2027, with his immediate focus on returning to winning form against Koen Mazoudier on the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Tim Tszyu undercard in Sydney on July 26.
The 36-year-old steps back into the ring for the first time since May 2025, when he stopped Thomas LaManna in what was expected to lead to a showdown with Caleb Plant. Those plans collapsed when Armando Resendiz upset Plant on the same card. Resendiz was elevated to WBA super middleweight champion but lost the belt in his first defense to Munguia, leaving the Mexican as titleholder and setting up the target Charlo is now pursuing. A win over Mazoudier would position Charlo for another outing before the year is out, with a Munguia title challenge and a potential third world championship to follow in 2027.
