With its deal with DAZN, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing have been attempting to grab several of boxing’s best to sign with the promotion. Two fighters in particular that Hearn has reportedly had some eye on are the Charlo twins — WBC Light Middleweight Champion Jermell and interim WBC Middleweight Champion Jermall.
In the days leading up to Jermell Charlo’s June title defense against Austin Trout, the twins expressed openness in negotiations with Hearn. But now, at a recent press conference for a Dec. 22 card that will see both brothers making title defenses, the twins suggested things have changed.
The Charlos are currently not promoted by anyone, though they are advised by Al Haymon and his Premier Boxing Champions brand. Both brothers suggested that Hearn is signing washed up fighters, and with how happy they are under Haymon, Hearn would need to make a big offer for both men to get them to sign.
“[Hearn’s] trying to get artists who are already done and washed-up,” Jermell Charlo said. “You see artists you don’t even see in a long time, you see them on Love & Hip-Hop, right? How many Ls do some of [Hearn’s fighters] got? Do he really got some superior undefeated dogs?”
“Al Haymon has been the absolute best to us,” Jermall added. “We would not go against what he’s done for us. Simple as that. If Hearn wants us he’s gonna have to give us a big offer. It’s gonna be a double package. It’s gonna [have to be for] the Charlo twins…[Hearn made an offer] but it hasn’t been nothing!”
