Charr-Bryan Reach Deal, WBA Purse Bid Cancelled

For the first time since winning the title in 2017, WBA “regular” heavyweight champion Manuel Charr is set to defend after coming to an agreement with Trevor Bryan.

Bryan, who is the interim champion of the WBA, was announced as the mandatory opponent for Charr with a purse bid initially set for May 17th.

Even with the purse bid pushed back, Charr and Bryan would end up coming to terms to fight on Wednesday, per a report from ESPN.

Charr has been amid a litany of legal issues surrounding his title with former mandatory challenger Fres Oquendo suing for a title opportunity, then vacating the chance by not signing a contract to fight. The champion was also almost stripped of the belt following a failed drug test, but would have the ban lifted following a legal loophole.
