Chavez Advocates For GGG-Canelo Trilogy

Legendary world champion Julio Cesar Chavez feels that Canelo Alvarez should face only one man on May 4th, and that’s Gennadiy Golovkin.

Golovkin, who fought Alvarez to a draw in 2017, and fell to Alvarez on the scorecards in 2018, is signed to DAZN, the same network that signed Alvarez to a historic $365 million deal in 2018.

Alvarez claimed that after defeating Golovkin, the only way he’d face Golovkin is if the Kzahk boxer won another world title.

GGG knocked down that hurdle back in October with a win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko to gain the IBF middleweight title vacated by Alvarez after not scheduling a fight with Derevyanchenko, his mandatory challenger.

“Triple G deserves the third fight because if you saw both fights, you didn’t see Canelo win comfortably. I’m honest, I think the two fights could have gone either way. He deserves a third fight so that he could really define who has been better,” Chavez told Izquierdazo.

“Logically, Canelo has evolved a lot [since their first two fights]. I think Canelo now has more of an opportunity [to win more clearly], now he can knock him out. Canelo has the opportunity to show that he is better than Golovkin.”
