Chavez Jr. Returns in Dec. Against Britsch

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been away from the ring for 17 months, but he will return before the end of the year. The former WBC world middleweight champion will return on Dec. 10 against Dominik Britsch. The fight will take place in Mexico.

Chavez Jr., 30, last fought in a 10-round decision victory over Marcos Reyes in July of 2015.

The Dec. 10 fight against Britsch will be at a catchweight of 169 lbs. Chavez Jr. has struggled making the middleweight limit in the past.

The news was confirmed by Chavez Jr.’s promoter Zanfer on social media.

It has not been confirmed what weight class Chavez Jr. will compete at after his catchweight bout with Britsch. Given his struggles making middleweight, he will likely campaign for a title shot at 168 lbs.

Britsch is a relatively unknown fighter, having recently been scheduled to fight WBO super-middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez in a bout that was cancelled due to the champion’s injury.
