Chavez Jr.’s Boxing Return Announced

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) will return to the ring on January 24 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, against Angel Julian Sacco (10-1-1, 4 KOs), despite facing criminal charges.

Chavez Jr. is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Jake Paul on June 28. The 39-year-old was then arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in July for overstaying his visa and allegedly lying on a green card application.

The situation escalated severely upon his deportation to Mexico in August, where the Department of Homeland Security revealed Chavez had an active arrest warrant for his “involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives,” citing alleged affiliations with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Though Chavez was released from a Mexican prison in August, it was confirmed he would have to stand trial for alleged cartel ties and arms trafficking, with a scheduled court hearing expected on November 24. His father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., maintains that his son is innocent. Chavez Jr.’s last win was against Uriah Hall in July 2024, while Sacco has ten wins on the spin.
