History is on the line for Cecilia Braekhus as she is set to return to action this Saturday, August 15. The undisputed welterweight champion will look to break Joe Louis’ mark of 25 straight title defenses. In her way is another champion looking to take “The First Lady’s” crown.
Braekhus (36-0) and Jessica McCaskill (8-2) will be fighting in the streets of Tulsa, Oklahoma in Matchroom Boxing’s return to America. Before they face off in the ring, they will use their words to get into the heads of their opponent, via the fight night press conference.
First tasting welterweight gold in 2009, Braekhus would end up beating Vinni Skovgaard via unanimous decision for the WBA and WBC Welterweight Titles. From there, she won the WBO belt against Victoria Cisneros, the IBF belt from Ivana Habazin and the IBO belt from Chris Namus. Her last bout was a unanimous decision win over Victoria Bustos back in November.
The WBA and WBC Super-Lightweight Champion in McCaskill is on a three-fight win streak, beating Erica Farias back in October via majority decision. She first fought Farias back in 2018, winning the WBC belt. The loss before the wins came against Katie Taylor back in 2017.
