CHECK OUT: Gary Russell Jr. Doubles Down On Rift With Devin Haney
Gary Russell Jr. isn’t letting up on his digs towards Devin Haney.
Russell holds the WBC Featherweight Championship while Haney has a hold on the WBC Lightweight gold. Beef has been brewing between the two since Russell took aim at many top names. Of all the boxers who were called out, Haney appears to have been the most vocal about potentially clashing with Russell.
During a live chat on social media, Russell told fans that Haney is in for a world of hurt once their bout materializes (transcription via Bad Left Hook).
“Ain’t no cappin’ going on. This sh*t real, we just getting everything situated on our end. To the fans, to the people who want to know, they definitely did send a contract over. We just putting in the particulars that we want, based upon the fact that if I beat his lil’ ass, the rematch is on our terms. Whatever network of our deciding.”
Russell went on to say that he believes Haney is unaware of what he has gotten himself into.
“So we just getting the particulars ready. All that sh*t about somebody cappin’, ain’t nobody mothaf*ckin’ cappin’. We in this mothaf*cker grinding. This sh*t real. You gonna get your lil’ ass scorched and you don’t even know it. You don’t even know it, shorty. You done bit off a lil’ more than you can swallow. This sh*t about to get real ugly real soon.”
Russell has just one defeat on his pro boxing record. He was defeated by Vasiliy Lomachenko via majority decision back on June 21, 2014. As for Haney, he’s been perfect with a record of 24-0.
In his last outing, Russell defeated Tugstsogt Nyambayar via unanimous decision on February 8. In Haney’s last bout back on November 9, 2019, he beat Alfredo Santiago via unanimous decision to keep his lightweight gold.
