After a fight between her and Amanda Serrano was nixed, Katie Taylor was still ready to compete. Under the bright lights of “Matchroom Fight Camp”, Taylor will now face off against her toughest opponent to date.
On August 22, Taylor (15-0) will defend her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring Lightweight Titles in a rematch against Delfine Persoon. The two faced off against one another last June inside Madison Square Garden. Taylor won via majority decision in a fight that had the New York crowd on their feet. It was deemed a controversial scoring decision, and a rematch was always in the back of everyone’s mind. Now, Persoon (44-2) will look to even the score, while Taylor is prepared to prove her win wasn’t a fluke.
The two will fight on August 22 in the backyard of Matchroom Boxing’s U.K. office. The main event will be Dillian Whyte defending his interim WBC Heavyweight Title against Alexander Povetkin.
