A fight two years in the making will look to take place in August, as Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will fight to prove who the top heavyweight is. The two will compete in a trilogy bout at UFC 252 on August 15 for the UFC Heavyweight Title.
Back in 2018, Cormier (22-2, 1NC), the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion at the time, moved to heavyweight and beat Miocic (19-3) for the UFC Heavyweight Title. Cormier knocked Miocic out in the first round at UFC 226. That fight took place in July.
It took a year+ for the rematch to take place in California. In August 2019 at UFC 241, it appeared as though Cormier was going to win again. Miocic, however, fought back. He hit several liver and face shots, winning via TKO in the fourth round.
As well as dealing with COVID-19 in his area, Miocic needed surgery after that fight to fix a torn retina. Finally healed up and ready to go, the firefighter is looking to secure his spot as the top heavyweight in UFC history. Cormier, a former double-champion, stated he may be retiring following the bout.
