CHECK OUT: Sean O’Malley-Marlon Vera Grudge Fight Set For UFC 252
A highly-anticipated bantamweight bout has been added to the UFC’s next biggest PPV event.
Sean O’Malley will look to stay active in 2020 as he takes on Marlon Vera at UFC 252. The UFC confirmed the booking after O’Malley announced on his YouTube Channel that the fight was on. He posted the video right before UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi.
“It’s signed on my side,” O’Malley stated. “I don’t know if it’s signed on his side, but it’s happening. It’s going down, the ‘Sugar’ show is back!”
O’Malley (12-0) will be competing in his third fight in 2020. The 25-year-old last fought at UFC 250, beating Eddie Wineland via knockout. It was a straight shot that ended up learning him Performance of the Night. “Sugar” turned professional in 2015. Earning a contract with the UFC after appearing on Dana White’s Contender Series, O’Malley beat Terrion Ware in 2017, Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222 and Jose Alberto Quinonez at UFC 248 this past March.
O’Malley was set to compete at UFC 229 in October 2018 before initially testing positive for ostarine. Serving a six-month suspension, the supplement appeared to still be in his system as USADA flagged him for another failed test. This was when he was supposed to face Vera (15-6-1), and it was determined by USADA that the second violation was a result of a tainted dietary supplement.
Vera lost his last bout this past May, with Song Yadong beating him via unanimous decision. The loss ended a five-fight win streak dating back to 2018. He has earned two consecutive performance bonuses with the UFC and has been with the promotion since 2014.
O’Malley would later call out several stars in the video, including the suspended T.J. Dillashaw. His dream is to become a world champion by next year.
UFC 252 will take place from inside the UFC’s APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event will be a trilogy bout between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Title.
