Derek Chisora (36-14, 23 KOs) has changed his mind on retirement, with Deontay Wilder’s (45-4-1, 43 KOs) post-fight remarks proving enough to bring the 43-year-old back to the ring.
The pair met last month in a split-decision win for Wilder, a fight Chisora had publicly declared would be the last of his career. What followed in the aftermath shifted that position entirely. Wilder claimed after the fight that he had held back in the later rounds, stating he was conscious of the damage he could inflict and had Chisora’s children in mind when choosing not to push for a more decisive finish. Amer Abdallah, President of MF Pro which promoted the first fight, said Chisora called him a few weeks after the fight demanding a rematch, something Chisora’s wife has agreed to.
“He called me a couple of weeks ago and he was perturbed, he was upset that Deontay said that he took it easy on him and sent him home to his family. He was livid. He kept saying ‘get me the rematch, get me the rematch’. So, I will let it simmer for a little bit, if he feels the same way in the next couple of weeks then we can have that conversation, but I definitely think Deontay would be open to it. Shelly [Finkel] and I are very close, we talk daily, so I hope to be able to work some things out with Deontay and then if Derek wants to stay in the mix, possibly something with him also,” Abdallah
