Chocolatito Gonzalez Pulled From Final HBO Card
Former four division world champion Roman Gonzalez has been pulled from the final card in HBO history, following an injury.
First reported by ESPN Deportes, Gonzalez suffered an injury to his meniscus, forcing him off of the December 8th card against Pedro Guevara at Stubhub Center in Carson, California.
“Chocolatito” as set to be the co-main event of a card featuring Cecilia Braekhus in the main event and Claressa Shields opening up the final broadcast in HBO’s 45-year history of airing boxing on the network.
Gonzalez last appeared on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin middleweight championship rematch, where he would get his first win in two years with a knockout of Moises Fuentes.
The injury delays Gonzalez’ plan to secure a title shot against WBA super flyweight champion Kal Yafai, who retained his title on November 24th win a win over Israel Gonzalez.
