Chocolatito Reacts To Suspension Of Judge Who Scored Juan Estrada Rematch
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez has reacted to the temporary suspension of a judge who scored his rematch with Juan Estrada.
Earlier this month (March 2021), Gonzalez and Estrada did battle in an instant classic. The WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring Super-Flyweight Titles were on the line. After 12 rounds of thrilling action, Estrada was awarded the split decision victory.
One judge scored the fight 117-111 in favor of Estrada. That judge was Carlos Sucre and the WBA has suspended him until further notice. The general consensus is that the score total was egregious.
During a conference call, “Chocolatito” praised the WBA for their decision (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“I applaud the decision to suspend the judge. It is an important step toward justice being served.”
While Gonzalez has been gracious in defeat, he still makes it clear that he feels he should’ve had his hand raised. Here’s what he told DAZN’s Chris Mannix.
“I won both of them. Whatever [Estrada] wants, we’ll do it. I’m very happy with my performance and the crowd enjoyed the fight.
“It was a better fight than the first one. I felt strong, and I felt I won. In the last round, I gave it all. It was a great round. The result is what God wanted. And I’m happy because I’m going back home to see my family.”
