Chocolatito-Rungvisai Rematch Set for September

In March Roman Gonzalez, then the #1 pound-for-pound fighter and undefeated in the ring, was stunned in a controversial loss to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai at Madison Square Garden.

This fall, “Chocolatito” will have his shot at redemption.

Ring TV reported that the rematch between Gonzalez and Rungvisai for the junior bantamweight title is set for September 9. The fight being finalized was confirmed by K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler.

The venue for the fight hasn’t been set yet but it will likely take place in Los Angeles.

“I think it was a great fight the first time, Srisaket rose to the occasion,” Loeffler said. “It was controversial where many people thought Chocolatito did enough to retain his title, but that’s why the WBC ordered a rematch. (It’s) one of those fights fans are looking forward to seeing again.

“The great thing about the (junior bantamweight) division is that there’s so many great fighters at the top, interchangeably, and it should provide a lot of matchups for the division.”
