Chris Billam-Smith Could Face Canelo After Okolie Win

Chris Billam-Smith could face Canelo Alvarez following his victory over Lawrence Okolie.

Billam-Smith shocked the world when he knocked Okolie down three times to win the WBO cruiserweight title. While Okolie has set his sights on a rematch, it appears that Billam-Smith’s team has its eyes on facing Canelo.

His trainer, Shane McGuigan, confirmed as much.

“There was talk of a Mexican [Canelo] coming up to cruiserweight once who does good tickets in Vegas! I think Vegas would be another bucket list thing,” McGuigan

Nevertheless, the chances of this happening appear slim. Not only does Okolie want a rematch, but Canelo’s failure to beat Dmitry Bivol at 175 lbs has shown that maybe this would be a weight class too far for the Mexican.
