Chris Eubank Jr. Sees Jermall Charlo Fight Happening In 2021
Chris Eubank Jr. believes he will share the ring with Jermall Charlo next year.
Eubank is the interim WBA Middleweight Champion. He captured the gold after defeating Matt Korobov via TKO back on December 7, 2019. Korobov couldn’t continue due to a shoulder injury.
Eubank spoke to BoxingScene.com and said he’s still gunning for a clash against Charlo, who holds the WBC Middleweight Championship.
“The Charlo fight probably would have happened this year. But everything happens for a reason. I ended up here with Roy. We’ve worked on all the things I feel I needed to work on. I feel like I’m a better fighter for it. Now it’s just on Al Haymon and PBC to get me in there with these guys. The Charlo fight didn’t happen this year, it’s just how it’s meant to be. It’s just how life has chosen things to play out.
“Will it happen next year? I think there’s a very high chance. I don’t see why not.”
Charlo is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko. It was Charlo’s fourth title defense. The win improved Charlo’s unbeaten pro boxing record to 31-0.
Eubank’s record stands at 29-2. He is riding a three-fight winning streak. In that span, Eubank has defeated Korobov, James DeGale, and JJ McDonagh.
