Ciryl Gane Hoping For Another Interim Title Shot

Ciryl Gane expects another interim title shot.

Gane is going to fight against No. 3 ranked Tai Tuivasa on September 3 in Paris, France. This will be for the first time after suffering defeat against Francis Ngannou.

Gane won the interim title of the heavyweight division and fought with Ngannou for the undisputed title.

He started the fight out great and earned the first two rounds with his unique, striking skills, but Ngannou used his wrestling skills to turn the table in his favor.

However, Ngannou is recovering from surgery on an injury he said he sustained prior to their undisputed title fight and will not be able to fight for a few more months.

This opens the door for the rest of the division to earn the interim title shot and guarantee himself as the next title challenger for Ngannou.

“I think if I win against Tuivasa, I think it’s gonna be a fight for the interim title against the winner of the next fight for the interim title,” Gane told MMA Junkie. “So this (loss to Ngannou) put me a little bit back, but this put me more challenge, so I’m okay.”

Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will most likely fight against each other, but it is unclear whether it will be for the interim title.

Another top-five fighter, Curtis Blaydes, will fight with rising star Tom Aspinall.
