Cityl Gane Wants Interim Title Fight If He Defeats Tai Tuivasa
If Ciryl Gane defeats Tai Tuivasa, he hopes to challenge for the interim UFC heavyweight championship.
On September 3, Gane will face Tuivasa at the UFC’s first event in France. It will be Gane’s first fight following his loss to former partner Francis Ngannou At UFC 270 in January.
He will now face Tuivasa, the No. 3 heavyweight in the UFC, who is currently on a five-fight winning streak.
Gane spoke with Daily Star Sport about his future goals in light of a possible victory over Tuivasa. Due to Ngannou’s current contract troubles with the UFC, it looks like he has his sights set on an interim title match.
“I don’t know the exact plan for the UFC, but for me, I think the next fight for my career will be an interim title fight.
“Of course, Francis has the belt at the moment, and there is also Stipe Miocic versus Jon Jones. My mission, my goal remains to go for the belt, and I hope I win this fight against Tuivasa and after we progress.”
His loss against Ngannou was the first defeat in Gane’s MMA career. Gane could undoubtedly make a case for an interim championship bout if he gets the big win over Tuivasa, or perhaps he could be the first to greet Ngannou when he returns to the Octagon.
