Claressa Shields Chasing Rare History Against Kaye Scott

Claressa Shields will drop from heavyweight to the 160-pound middleweight limit on Saturday to challenge Kaye Scott for the WBA and WBC titles at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

The undefeated Shields (18-0, 3 KOs) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and has won world titles across five weight classes. The 31-year-old became undisputed heavyweight champion by defeating Danielle Perkins in February 2025 and most recently defended those titles against Franchón Crews-Dezurn in February.

Scott (5-1-1, 0 KOs) has just seven professional bouts but brings considerable amateur experience. The 42-year-old Australian claimed the vacant WBA and WBC titles with a majority-decision victory over Olivia Curry in December.

Roy Jones Jr. was the last heavyweight champion to later win a title in a lower division. Shields is also the only boxer in the four-belt era to become undisputed in three weight classes.

The main concern is how Shields will handle the weight cut. She has not competed at middleweight since 2023 and weighed 174 pounds for her previous fight.

However, Scott’s limited professional experience and lack of knockout power make it difficult to predict. She has yet to record a stoppage, while Shields has only three knockouts in 18 victories.
