Claressa Shields To Face Abigail Montes In Second Pro MMA Fight

Female boxing legend Claressa Shields doesn’t want her MMA journey to halt anytime soon.

The Olympic gold medalist will reportedly fight Abigail Montes (2-0) at the PFL championship event on October 27.

Montes, 21, won her last fight via TKO in April. Shields is excited to take on Montes, who has not been defeated in her brief career so far.

“I’m actually looking forward to fighting against another undefeated fighter and just continuing to grow,” she said to The Washington Post.

Shields is aiming to become “a compete MMA fighter,” which she thinks she will become by learning to mix every technical skill.

Shields, who won her debut MMA fight against Brittney Elkin via TKO in June, believes she has what it takes to overwhelm many big women martial artists.

“Athletically, I think I can compete with a lot of those [MMA] girls right now, but I don’t want to just compete, I want to win,” the boxer-come-MMA star said.

“The big picture is to hopefully learn enough and be good enough that next year when I and my coaches have the big talk about, ‘Am I ready for the PFL in 2022?’ The answer is yes.”
